Waste management

Waste management is fundamental to the sustainability performance of all NHSScotland Health Boards. The management of all waste in Scotland is undergoing significant change as a result of the far-reaching Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012.

The HFS Waste Management Steering Group (WMSG) meets quarterly to discuss issues specifically relevant to waste management by NHSScotland Boards. These include current and forthcoming legislative and policy requirements, action planning, and performance management and reporting. It co-ordinates the compilation of waste management guidance for Boards, shares best practice and reviews waste-related projects and priorities. It also has a key role on the NHS estates and facilities benchmarking programme and other waste management reporting.

For further information on the WMSG, or to raise a query related to waste management issues affecting NHSScotland please contact us.
