Safety Action Notices (SANs)

The Adverse Incident Reporting & Investigation Centre (IRIC) co-ordinates the investigation of incidents involving health, social care, estates and facilities equipment across NHSScotland and local authorities in Scotland as set out in CEL 43 (2009) and where necessary issues safety alerts. This involves close liaison with MHRA, Scottish Government and the Department of Health in England. An investigation service is also provided to the police and Procurators Fiscal where equipment is involved in a fatal Accident.

Safety Action Notices were standard priority safety warnings issued in Scotland from 1995 to 2009 and have largely been superseded by Medical Device Alerts (from the MHRA) and Estates & Facilities Alerts.
