Facilities Services supports NHS Boards and the Scottish Government by providing professional technical input to the development and implementation of national policy in the fields of:
- Catering Services
- Domestic Services
- Portering Services
- Telecommunications
- Security Services
- Transport
Through its policy development work, Facilities Services aims to establish professional and technical standards and introduce best practice procedures and new technologies and innovations that will support NHS Boards to achieve their operational targets in Health Efficiency Assessment and Treatment. Facilities Services are currently involved in the introduction of the Colour Coding system throughout NHSScotland and has responsibility for the implementation of the Catering and Nutritional Specification in support of the Food Fluid and Nutritional strategy. Facilities Services draws extensively on technical service leads within NHS Boards across the spectrum of facilities services and has advisory groups within all of the services above.
Facilities Services delivers an extensive education and training programme in each of the services.
Facilities Services also leads research programmes in new technologies and innovative practice that will inform tomorrow's facilities services throughout NHSScotland. Facilities Services are currently undertaking a research project on Micro Fibre and Copper Compounds in support of the national Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) reduction strategy.
